Matthew
22
Sun Tzu,
Carl Von Clausewitz and Niccolò Machiavelli had nothing on Jesus. He had just repelled three attacks by the
religious hypocrites and instead of just kicking back and enjoying his public
victories, he decided to turn this into a route.
Jesus asked
an easy question. Whose Son is the
Christ?
The son of
David, of course. The Pharisees knew
that they had nailed this answer, but Jesus
continued.
“How is it
then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says,
“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
until I put
your enemies
under your feet.”’
If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be
his son?”
That left
the hypocrites speechless and put an end to the constant barrage of Scribes and
Pharisees trying to trick or trap Jesus.
Jesus would
continue to chastise the religious hypocrites in the next chapter, but while
the Pharisees were the topic, Jesus was addressing these comments to his disciple
and the crowd. The religious hypocrites
had all they could handle.
They had
been whupped.
Amen.
